Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage
- Relating to my customers on a personal level
- valuable: relating to my consumers on a personal level is extremely valuable
- Rare: only .5% of the U.S population is vegan, so being part of this small percentage, and also marketing out to them is pretty rare
-Inimitable: This is pretty hard to copy, unless another vegan thinks of and launches this idea before me
-Non-Substitutable: There aren’t any resources that could provide the same benefit as being able to relate to my customers
- Growth— Being vegan is trending right now as people are becoming more aware of the lifestyle
-Valuable: this growth is a valuable part of growing my opportunity as well
-Rare: I don’t think growth is necessarily considered rare
-inimitable: Growing number of vegans could be considered hard to copy
-Non-Substitutable: The growth of vegetarians could be substitutable and provide just as much benefit to my venture
- Social Capital: Connections with entrepreneurs like my boyfriend and uncle
-Valuable: They could help me immensely to start up my own company, which would include where to begin, getting a loan, connections, etc.
-Rare: Having connections is not rare
-Inimitable: Having connections is not hard to copy, just having the right ones is.
-Non-Substitutable: My exact connections are substitutable with other people that could provide information
- Social Capital: As a business major, I have connections to many people that know about creating an app
-Valuable: Extremely valuable to build an app
-Rare: Not necessarily, there are many people that build apps
-Inimitable: Pretty easy to copy building an app, but not easy to think of my idea and build my exact app
-Non-Substitutable: There are other people that could provide the same benefits
- Public Speaking Experience: I am apart of Toast Masters, which is a club that helps me become more comfortable with speaking in front of a crowd.
-Valuable: Public speaking could help immensely with many business meetings, conferences, and even one-on-one conversations
-Rare: It is moderately rare to have public speaking experience
-Inimitable: Joining a club that helps you speak publicly is not hard to copy
-Non-Substitutable: Yes, taking a class on public speaking, joining debate class/club, or practicing could all provide the same benefits.
- Uniqueness of the venture: there aren’t any vegan dating apps
-Valuable: Extremely valuable for my venture to be unique.
-Rare: Yes, because of how unique it is
-Inimitable: It’s pretty hard to think of the idea and go through with it
-Non-Substitutable: There are traditional dating apps that can provide the same benefit of finding a partner
- Human Capital: Being compassionate and an empathic
-Valuable: Yes, it could help in many ways
-Rare: There are many people that have these qualities, but there are also many people that lack them
-Inimitable: It is hard to copy having these qualities if one doesn’t naturally possess them
-Non-Substitutable: There are other people that can provide the same qualities
- Human Capital: I am a hard worker
-Valuable: Yes It can help with every step of being an entrepreneur
-Rare: I could say moderately rare
-Inimitable: It could be easy to copy
-Non-Substitutable: There are other people that may be just as hard working or even more hard working
- Human Capital: I feel very strongly about health foods
-Valuable: This could help with incorporating my passion into my app
-Rare: I could say this is pretty rare
-Inimitable: It’s pretty hard to copy if you don’t care about what you put in your body
-Non-Substitutable: Yes, there are other people that care strongly about health foods
- Social Capital: I am connected with many vegan organizations
-Valuable: This could help with advertising
-Rare: Moderately rare
-Inimitable: Pretty hard to copy these connections
-Non-Substitutable: Other people may have more vegan organizations they’re connected with.
It was pretty hard to pick only one, but I believe that relating to my consumers on a personal level is my top resource. This will help me with feeling passionate about my venture, knowing how to respond to issues, and also what to incorporate to make the app as engaging as possible.

Even though the market you are targeting is relatively small compared to other thing, having a personal connection to your direct market will benefit you in the long run. I have a friend who is targeting a certain market (details left out) but he has nothing in common with his market, which has severely hurt him through his journey. I had noticed that you only had a couple of social capital points, I would highly suggest joining Entrepreneurship Collective next year, I have found it to be an amazing networking club with many other student entrepreneurs.
