What's Next?

Existing Market
Step 1: I believe a blog would be great to incorporate within the app, that would include all things vegan. I would hire someone professional to write up articles, and hopefully it will be successful enough to advertise (and get paid for) products and services that will be beneficial for the user. I know it’s a completely different idea, but it is something I’m interested in, so hopefully others will think it’s a good idea.
Step 2: I again spoke to people at the Union Farmers Market on Wednesday (I find It to be easy to approach people in a calm environment)
-       I interviewed a 21-year-old vegan male. He said that it would a good idea to team up with Amazon’s drone delivery service to deliver chocolates or flowers to a girl or buy that they’ve been talking to, with permission of the other person of course. He says that the blog is a good idea because it will help keep people informed. He also thinks that recipes would be a good article idea.
-       The second person I interviewed was a vegan 20-year-old female. She couldn’t think of anything next for a dating app because it’s pretty straight forward. She said that she doesn’t think my idea correlates well with a dating app, and she personally wouldn’t click on the articles because she’d use the app just for dating.
-       I interviewed a 25-year-old male that thought for a second and thought about having an option to group people that have used the app to start a relationship, so that the app could group these couples together to meet up to go on double dates and become friends. He also said that he thinks that the blog idea is a good one and can lead to a lot of profit if I team up with big companies.
Step 3: From the feedback I received, I believe that the ideas I got from the first interview and the third interview— to team up with Amazon’s drone delivery service in the future and to help with double dates— are pretty long shots. I personally believe that both of these ideas are creative and innovative, but I don’t know how well it would play out. I would definitely consider these ideas and maybe ask/interview people to see if people that use the app would find it useful.
In regard to my blog idea for what’s next, I think that it could be profitable in the future and if the app becomes successful. I can see why the girl with the second interview I conducted thinks it’s not a good idea. Again, I would say that I definitely have to research successful blogs and what their profits are, along with whether people would use this option within the app.

New Market
Step 1: A radically different market would be targeting health stores (businesses) to create a dating app.
Step 2: I would basically team up with health food stores like Whole Foods and Lucky’s. These businesses would offer my subscription to their guests and for every person they bring in, they’ll get a good percentage of profit.
Step 3:
-       I spoke to the manager of Whole Foods (very briefly) and basically pitched my idea. He said that it’s a long shot because it would be difficult for them to approach people on their end. He said that correlating buying food and a dating app wouldn’t go well together, and it wouldn’t make enough profits for Whole Foods to pursue.
-       I spoke to the manager at Lucky’s, he said that in a college town, it may be a good idea for them, but it wouldn’t be appropriate for them to team up with a dating app. He said that he doesn’t think that there’s anything that I could do to alter my idea enough to convince health stores to team up with a vegan dating app.
Step 4: If I’m being honest, I knew it was too radical of an idea to begin with, but there was really nothing else I could think of. It was interesting to hear both the manager’s feedback. Although I can definitely understand what he is saying, the thing that surprised me most was that Lucky’s didn’t think it was appropriate enough for them to team up with a dating app.
I don’t think it was a good idea at all to market to businesses when It comes to a dating app because it’s more of a private thing that people don’t talk about. It has become more common to use dating apps, but it still is kind of a secretive thing, so using businesses in the mix wouldn’t make sense.

  1. I think that your idea of connecting with health stores is a great idea! I often see partners of grocery stores sitting outside the store with an information table and marketers that offer information and some fun activities! I also think you could offer coupons and advertisements for these health stores in the app, which would in the end profit both groups.

  2. Hi Ariel,

I think you have several excellent ideas on your post. I really like the idea of advertising at a local farmers market. Last time I've been to the downtown's union farmers market, I was surprised how many people were presents. The Amazon drone delivery is interesting as well. I've never used the drone delivery but it can be an exciting way to send gift. The only thing I would be making sure is that to let the receiver know the shipping address won't be disclosed to anyone. Because eventually, you would have to ask for the address if you want to develop this functions in the dating app.
