- General Theme: Inbound Marketing is about how to use marketing, advertising, content to bring consumers in to build up your brand. The book focuses on blogs and ways to create an effective online profile.
- Book & Class relationship: The book and this entrepreneur course both focus directly with creating a blog and focusing on what you’re the best at. Although our blog is assignment based, it still has to be creative, engaging, and thought out, while also selling an idea (product/service). Inbound marketing also speaks about tracking progress for content (create, optimize, publish, market, measure results) which goes hand in hand with our class, with not only grades, but also feedback received from classmates.
- Exercise for the class: What do you think is the most important tool to focus on within your social media sites? (Choose one from each list)
—Username, Profile picture, biography, or site links (to your blog, etc.).
—Telling your story, being transparent, or listening.
Choose two tools (one from each list) and write 1-2 paragraphs on each.
- "Aha" moment: The most interesting thing that I read was in chapter 8 “convert visitors into leads”. Conversion is the art of encouraging site visitors with your business. Being compelling, prominent, action oriented, and easy to use are keys to convert. “Optimize through experimentation by testing multiple call to action with emphasis on these different tools. Mistakes to avoid are: get people’s information instead of telling your customers to email you, and don’t write “contact us” so. Another inspiring story told in the book was in chapter 10, where the book speaks about learning to play guitar. Only 6 out of 100 people who begin learning to play guitar, learn to play a simple song. In the beginning, it’s difficult, but with time and once learned, gratification arises and so does skill. This creates an analogy between learning guitar and learning inbound marketing. Time and work that is put in results in skill and reward. Don’t give up, commit, and even if you think it’s not worth your time, it can result in a lot of value.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your reading reflection. The parallels between the book and what we complete in class are really interesting. They align so well together, that must have been cool to recognize as you were reading. I like the class exercise too, it really gives the opportunity for someone to take the time to further develop an important social media tool. As things become more digital, social media has been a key player in entrepreneurship.

ReplyDeleteit's interesting to see that the book you read also focused about writing blogs. I thought your potential exercise for the class was interesting regarding the social media. I had made the problem of giving out my contact information rather than collecting possible customers information. I have found that many customers, are not ecstatically driven to follow up after meeting. However, if you are in control of the follow up, you are most likely to initiate something afterwards.
