Forming An Opportunity Belief

Vegan Dating App

I believe a vegan dating app and website would be helpful and commonly used, considering more and more people are changing their lifestyles. As a vegan, I have noticed that it is common of my other vegan friends to occasionally complain that they have trouble finding potential partners, because they are seeking someone who shares their values. Having trouble finding a vegan partner has probably existed for a long time, but it is becoming more common due to an increase of vegans. This is most likely due to the easily accessible vegan options and resources. People are trying to connect with potential partners by having to awkwardly ask if they are also vegan, when having a conversation in person or potentially through other dating apps. I believe 60% that this opportunity exists. I don’t know any other vegan dating sites out there that are common or successful.

The prototypical customer: Vegans that are single and seeking a vegan partner.

#1: Vegan, single, female college student (age 20)

  • How long have you been a vegan?
        “About 3 years”
  • On a scale of 1-10, how important to you is dating someone who is also a vegan?
         “9”
  • Are you looking for strictly a vegan partner?
“Yes, but I would be ok with a vegetarian”
  • Do you have trouble finding potential dating partners?
“Yes, it’s hard to ask someone right off the bat. So when I went on dates, it bothered me a ton if they ate meat”
  • Would you use a vegan dating app?
“Yes, I would be hesitant at first but I think that I would be interested”
  • Do you think a vegan dating app would be beneficial to those seeking?
“Yes, especially those that are having trouble“
  • Do you have any final thoughts on a dating site just for vegans?
         “You should include vegetarians”

#2: Vegan, single male (age 23)

  • How long have you been a vegan?
         “5 years”
  • On a scale of 1-10, how important to you is dating someone who is also a vegan?
      “10”
  • Are you looking for strictly a vegan partner?
     “Yes”
  • Do you have trouble finding potential dating partners?
“No, because I surround myself around a lot of people that are vegan.      I volunteer at the local farm and Wednesday’s Farmers Market, so I’ve met a lot of friends through that”
  • Would you use a vegan dating app?
“Yes, mostly out of curiosity”
  • Do you think a vegetarian/vegan dating app would be beneficial to those seeking?
“Yes because there are dating apps but nothing that guarantees you will find like-minded connections”
  • Would this be beneficial to you?
“No, but I would use it if I needed to”
  • Any final thoughts or opinions on a dating site just for vegans?
“It’s a good idea”

#3: Vegan, divorced female (aged 45)
  • How long have you been a vegan?
     “About 15 years”
  • On a scale of 1-10, how important to you is dating someone who is also a vegan?
     “6”
  • Are you looking for strictly a vegan partner?
“No but it would be nice. My ex-husband ate meat and I didn’t mind at the time”
  • Do you have trouble finding potential dating partners?
“Yes, but I think that has to do more with my age”
  • Would you use a vegan dating app?
“It depends how easy it is to use”
  • Do you think a vegetarian/vegan dating app would be beneficial to those seeking?
“Yes very, but more for people that already use dating apps”
  • Any final thoughts or opinions on a dating site just for vegans?

     “It’s very unique and interesting”

Reflection: I learned that my opportunity does exist, and I believe it could be very useful in the vegan community. The most surprising, let’s say helpful, thing I learned about my opportunity was that vegetarians should be included in this dating app/website.

Summary: I believe that my opportunity is still out there, but I would definitely have to include vegetarian options, considering it is common for them to intertwine. I don’t believe my opportunity is more accurate than when I started because if I were to pursue this, I would have to do a lot more research and interview a lot more people.

I think entrepreneurs should adapt their opportunities based on customer feedback if it makes sense. If it does make sense, doing more research should help them decide if it is worth adapting to.

  1. It was definitely helpful to know that some of your customers are not bothered by a vegetarian diet. Maybe a filter that allows members to filter out vegetarians if they are bothered? I am not a vegan myself, but it makes sense that someone passionate about their lifestyle would want a parter with similar values. I think we can all relate to that.

  2. I like your idea of created a dating app that is specially for vegans, so they can find a common ground to begin with. I'm not a vegan but I can see the success in having an app like this and the fact that you are vegan means you will be able to know the general aspects that need to be on it. I agree with you that entrepreneurs should adapt to suit the customers because then they'll be more likely to be interested in the product.
